I'm looking for a copy of the Squad 10/1969 photo. As I recall, we passed out at the same time as 11/69 and (at least) 1/70, so there'll be about 50 or so people in the photo. I'll pay Sterling, USD or Euro, in advance, either for an original or for a good professional reproduction with a scan of the background so I can get that reproduced as well - thanks.

10:  Brigadier General William Bodle
Thank you for publishing such a detailed and interesting article on William Bodle (Vol.10 Issue 2 Summer Autumn issue 2007) I wish to add just a little snippet ..... that between 1922 and 1924 he lived in a house called 'Bulawayo' which was sited on Horsenden Hill, in the Borough of Ealing. It is a couple of miles from where his brother lived in Harrow on the Hill.  It is sad to hear William died in 1924 - he must have gone back to his place of birth to die.

6:  BSAP Metal Figures
I wonder if anyone can assist me. My father, the late TEN Carr (5397) was a serving member of the BSAP from 1955 to 1980. In order to preserve our family links to the BSAP for further generations, I am trying to collect metal 'toy soldiers' as such in varying BSAP uniforms. I too have followed a link I came across and not received a reply. Can anyone help? I would also be interested in hearing from anyone who served with Dad, especially memories of PATU as I am trying to compile a family history.

Anyone out there willing to sell a large-sized (post-UDI) Rhodesia flag? I prefer anything over 6ft in length. If it is a made-in-Rhodesia flag, even better. I don't like the cheap knock-offs, but an accurately proportioned and detailed reproduction would be acceptable.

I am a sober, non-smoking mature individual who served in the BSAP between 1972 and 1980. 6:  Information / Pictures? memories?
I posted a notice last year about the death of my brother Rod Stokes on 30 November 2000 in Botswana. I had one lovely email from a former mate of his which was so welcome. It is coming up for the 5th anniversary of his death, and I would like to appeal to anyone who might have photos , good memories, stories or anything about Rod to share them with us? At the time of his death he was running Sitatunga Camping Safaris in Maun Botswana. I have lost both my brothers and am trying to put together a journal of their lives for my folks, for us and for their kids!

2:
Information about my late brother Rod Stokes
I recently saw a notice from a back issue (no 83) reporting the death of my brother Rod Stokes. Information was a little sketchy and would like to set the record straight if anyone is interested? Rod served in the BSAP from 1976 until I think 1979 / 80. Rod died on 30 November 2000 in Gabarone from complications that set in after a botched appendicectomy op (done in Maun Botswana). He developed Septicaemia and peritonitis and his doctors tried for almost two months to save him. He was in and out of theatre and we surmise that he had a stroke on his final visit which was to have been to sew him up prior to sending him home. What did not help is that he had shrapnel floating around his body, and his Surgeon actually expressed to me that the "war " in essence helped kill my brother twenty years down the line. He had turned 42 on Nov 1 just 29 days before he died! We miss him greatly, there is a hole in our lives that can never be filled.

7:  Bechuanaland Border Police 1870-1894
John Francis Somers served in the Bechuanaland Border Police , which according to info recently obtained was an Imperial Unit raised by Lt Colonel F. Carrington, South Wales Borderers, with a strengh of 500. He could have participated in the First Matabele War of 1893 and would then received the British South Africa Company Medal 1893. He died at the age of 46 drowning in the Hartsriver neat Taung in the Northern Cape IN 1894, at that time under British control.I am not sure when he first came to South Africa but at the time of his death he was a detective in the Bechuanaland BoRder Police. He married a lady, Anna Gans in 15 November 1886 by a missionary, John Brown of the London Missionary Society(LMS)in a town TAUNG not far from Vryburg. 4:  "Leopard" Mine Resiting Vehicle in the BSAP
Hi, I have been researching this vehicle (pics at: www.saaaca.org.za/leopard )and have one for restoration. In amougst the documentation found during research is a listing of BSAP Members who were apparently responsible for field testing these vehciles at the request of the factory as a result of failures found, or responsible for them as a whole. (The doc is not clear on this but indicates the number of Parts Manuals issued to these Members). The document is undated but estimate 1974 to 77. BSAP Members mentioned are:
Chipinga: M/I/C Insp. Tavener, with reference to a 'Nigel Bailey'.
Mtoko (JOC): D/Supt. Potter, with reference to Mike Reeler and an admin person, 'Cummings'.
Mrewa: M/I/C Insp. McDiarmid, with reference to a specifc vehicle: G-LPD-154 'belonging to Mrewa'.
Darwin (Mt Darwin ?): M/I/C John Grey, (no rank given)
Salisbury: BSAP HQ MT, Supt. P Hudson, Insp. Tony Whitehead, and Support Unit Insp. Macleon.
Should any of these Members be contactable, I would very much appreciate corresponding with them in regard to their experiance with the Leopard. Many thanks. (The doc also lists persons from: IntAf, CMED, ESC, PTC, Tanganda Tea Estates, ADF and Puzey & Payne the agents if any ex members of these organisations may be known).

9 "Si Ye Pambili"
In 1956 four members of the Force at Bulawayo decided to resign, depart for UK, where they bought a trading schooner. They set sail for the Pacific where they reached Tahiti. Bill Baker opened up a Gents Outfitters there, Mike Maude and Roger Gowan and a fourth member who's name I forget, then went their separate ways. I knew all of them, a book was written titled the same name as the vessel...Se Ye Pambili (we go forward). I would like to get a copy if anyone has one for sale.

"The Rhodesia Medal Roll" has just gone into its second printing! This reference book contains the definitive list of all 12,000+ people who received Rhodesian honours and decorations gazetted between 1970 and October 1981, when the Rhodesian honours system fell into abeyance. Around 50% of all decorations were awarded to members of the BSAP or Police Reserve. The Roll also includes over 1,700 awards never published in "Contact" or "Contact II", and features an alphabetical surname index, making it easy to cross-check entitlements. Where Vultures Roost by Josh Stafford

From Zimbabwe's southern Matabeleland there is a cry of outrage, for a witch doctor has ordered the kidnapping of a child with delicate Asian features - the child's body is to be used to prepare muti, an African medicine. Joseph Lee is faced with a terrible decision, one that could cost him his life, or worse: the lives of his friend and young son. Can Joseph overcome this evil that has visited his family? And at what price? Set in the mid 1960s through the mid 1980s, 'Where Vultures Roost' is a tragic tale of Africa, a place where love and compassion co-exist with brutality and age old pagan rituals. It is a tale of friendship and bravery, of love and despair, and the sacrifices we must make to overcome evil. But most of all it is a story about the harsh reality of life on the African bushveld. 'Where Vultures Roost' is available online from www.amazon.com and www.PublishAmerica.com Personalised copies are available - contact the author at Josh@JoshStaffordBooks.com For more information, visit www.JoshStaffordBooks.com
***Note: All proceeds from the sale of these books go towards adopting a Chinese orphan and bringing her to Canada.

3Chris Cocks bestsellers FireForce and Survival Course being re-printed as one.
There are two kinds of wars: those fought on battlefields with guns and bombs, waged by elders against their enemies; and those fought within a man’s soul with conscience and remorse. The one is external, a public war for all the world to witness; the other intensely private, glimpsed at by only a few.
First 500 copies will be available autographed. Don't be disappointed and add yourself to the want list. E-mail Rhodesia@shaw.ca We are shooting for a release date of July 2004 with a retail of $39.95
