After leaving the police, having been Stationed in Gwands and West Nicholson I joined Department of Information Immigration and Tourism completing over 16 years service, having ben stationed at Chirundu 1966 to 1968 : Umtali 1968 to 1976 : Salisbury HQ 1976 to 1977 : Victoria Fall 1977 : Salisbury HQ 1977 to 1980 : After promotion to Senior Immigration officer, was transferred to Kariba as Officer in charge until December 1982. Begriming of 1983 came to live in UK warking for Securacor, before returning to South Africa to work as Office Manager for Department of Transport in Pietrmaritzburg Head Office. In 1991 I joined The Road Traffic Inspectorate as an Instructor teaching Traffic Officers to drive and qualify as Examiners For Drivers Licenses, this I did until 1995, I then took over as Officer In Charge of the Drivers Testing Grounds : Pitermaritzburg. I was first stationed at Bindura and then Mt. Darwin. In October, 73 transferred to Support Unit D Troop (acting SO) and patrolled the Valley until the ceasefire in April, 74. Resigned June and went on arms buying trip for Major Ian King (Smith's military attache). Am currently involved in humanitarian demining with a new landmine resistant vehicle, the FLEA (Forward Light Escort, Armored) which utilizes hydraulic suspension and fiberglass armor. This is based on my having been blown up near Mt. Darwin with Inspector Ted Painting in October, 1973 in a Police Land Rover.

Morris Depot Course photos escape me so unable to quote Cadet or PO Wings. Joined as a Cadet in November 1970 then PO on 7/10/71. Served in Marandellas, Sipalilo, Kanyemba and Banket. Returned to Zimbabwe in October 1999 - Banket unchanged. Unable to access Morris Depot but Jacarandas still as beautiful as ever.

During recruit training, dispatched to Wankie for +/- 30 days as part of a task force to back up local defences resultant from Op Spider, the banning of the ANC. First posting was to Gatooma district, Midland Province, service in Gatooma, Hartley and Battlefields attending riots at Rimuka, Lower Gwelo, Harare township, Machipisa Square and subsequently Sakubva !! until 1960 when posted to Salisbury (Depot) attending for +/- 2 years,the Federal Post Office Engineering College, Belvedere, as the first intake of Police officers, to study Radio Communications theory and practice. On graduation transferred to Signals Branch and posted to ZEF4 Workshops, Umtali, Manicaland Province, until attachment to SB H/Q Branch 1 CIO at 'Redbricks' from 1966 to retirement in 1980. During this time I shared the CIO representation along with various Technical Officers on the JSB ( Joint Signals Board ) with the destinction as the longest serving member. I had the honour to work with some great people in the Air Force, Army and the Police.
Married Renate E, Goetz, Marandellas, in January 1969. Our first child, Natasha was born November 1971 and for the past 10 years has been the executive Pastry Chef for the Piedmont Driving Club, the oldest private club in Atlanta. Natasha did her 4 year degree in Food Service Managment at Johnson and Wales, Charleston SC and worked her way up through the Grove Park Inn and Country Club, Ashville NC, Waverley Stouffers, Renaissance Hartsfield Airport and the Ritz Carlton, Atlanta and was the Culinary Federation Of America's 2008 Pastry Chef of the year for the South East region of the USA. Our son Rolf was born January 1974, He graduated from Stetson University with a degree in Business management and joined the Orange County Sheriff's Office in 1998 and is currently a member of a multi agency Special Operations task force to combat serious crime. Our July 1989 US born daughter Tanya, is currently attending the University of Tampa on a US Airforce nursing scholarship as a member of the Airforce Reserve and posted to the University of South Florida campus on attachment to their AFROTC programme. On leaving government service I entered the private sector in the telecommunications field which provided us with the opportunity to go to the USA in 1982. In 1998 Renate joined the Sheriff's Office as a Police Service Officer ( Civilian position ) until the present. I decided to retire again in July 2000 on reaching the age of 60 and on attaining US citizenship as my contribution to the millenium !

On leaving depot was posted to License Inspectors Salisbury and then moved to Traffic Enforcement. During my posting to Traffic I was an observer on Highway Patrol with Frank Flowers. Moved to Traffic Investigations and then passed my Highway course and moved onto Highway in about late 1978, when we had the BMW 2800. Transferred to Driving School under C.I. Mike Abbotts and remained there for the rest of my service. When I left the force I joined Old Mutual for a year and then joined C T Bowring as an Executive \broker in their Pensions Division. I stayed there until leaving the country to return to the UK Now retired having worked in my last post as a Project Manager for Devon County Council. Still enjoy playing golf at Fingle Glen golf club, which is just outside Exeter and am the Seniors Captain for the year 2011. Enjoy attending the get together held at Bovey Tracey twice a year and very well organised by David Kennedy. Suggest if you are ever down this way in May or October when they are held it

My claim to fame is the first W.P.O. in Karoi! Also served from ’75 to ’78 in Charge Office, Control Room, Traffic, Braeside and finally Karoi from ’75 to ’78. Met my husband Geoff in Karoi who was serving as a Territorial with 5 Rhodesia Regiment as a Sergeant Major. We have two children Sean Clayton Cooper, married to Gail and their son Rory Clayton and Michele Kelly soon to be married to Garry Seamark they are both British Citizen’s and live in Sudbury, Suffolk. Recruited from the UK towards end of 1965. Passed out mid 1966. Served in Chipinga and Rusape with the odd relief stint in Mayo and Headlands. Served in PATU. Joined the Royal Rhodesian Air Force Security Branch as a Dog Trainer in May 1969. Promoted to OC Dog and Security Training School in 1979. This unit later became the Regimental Training School which embraced the Armoured Car and Anti Aircraft and other Airfield Defence components of the Air Force. Eventually became Officer Commanding of the Air Force Regiment in the Rank of Wing Commander. Arrested, tortured by dubious elements of ZRP and CIO, detained and ultimately tried for treason with five other Senior Officers on trumped up charges for alleged complicity in the Thornhill Sabotage in 1982. This was a move designed to cause panic and transform Air Force which was predominantly white at the time. Subsequent to our arrest, most whites then left the Air Force. Found not guilty.

Many thanks to those dedicated types who keep the 'network' running for our ex members. Zoe(WPO104) and I are still fit and well and would like to hear from old friends (I think we did have the odd one or two). I stand corrected but I think Zoe was the only member to be a third generation with her grandfather and father both serving in the BSAP. Unfortunately living some distance outside of Jhb its not possible to attend the Assoc. functions but hopefully one day we will make it.
