Death: Lionel Ludvig ‘Lummy’ Lumholst-Smith (aka Lumoltz) 3385
Alistair Black advises, with regret, the death of Lummy Lumholst-Smith on 16 January 2012 in Cumbria, United Kingdom. Lummy, who was brought up in Norway, joined the BSA Police May 1934 and fell in with the likes of Arthur Baden-Powell (3383), who was to inherit the title Lord from his famous father, and Frank Barfoot(3342), later Commissioner of Police. After a few years on remote district stations, Lummy served most of his service in the Criminal Investigation Department, Salisbury. He may have been one of the few officers involved in the early start of the XB section (intelligence) of the CID, and also served in Immigration, which then fell under the control of the CID. He retired in August 1956, with the rank of Detective Chief Inspector. Lummy joined the Rhodesian Grain Marketing Board, where he served for many years. He was an active member of the Mashonaland Branch, before returning to Norway, and later a member of the UK Branch, when he eventually settled in Cumbia, United Kingdom. Lummy was born on 12 March 1912, and would have reached his 100th year this year. Our thoughts and condolences go out to his family and friends, to whom we extend our deepest sympathy.

Central Newsletter: March 2011 - No 98
Peter Bellingham has sent in his March 2011 News from Central newsletter for your reading pleasure. Some might ask 'why so late?' Well, Peter suffered the theft of his computer which had this edition in preparation thereon, and thus lost a huge amount of work and time. Peter's busy schedule has not permitted a quick recovery. We are happy that it has arrived! You may see prior editions of the Central Newsletter on the Central Advisory Committee pages. Remember the image to the right is a link!

So Who is Visiting the Web Site?
Statistics on website visits are often meaningless due to 'crawlers' (applications used by the major search engines to index the web), but if you eliminate these and the more exuberant of the spamming nations top site visiting nations during December 2010 are South Africa (46%); Australia (19%); United Kingdom (13%); New Zealand (6%) and Zimbabwe (5%). This seems pretty consistent with where former members are now located, with perhaps exception of the UK...

Reaching Out: Douglas Wright 4071
One of the more satifying aspects of operating this web site has been the ability to reach out to all those former members who choose to stay in contact. Particularly cheering to me has been the reponse of Vivien Wright, who sent in a picture of her father, Douglas Wright, reading his copy of the Web Administrator's Seasonal Newsletter on Christmas Day. Douglas (a former Senior Assistant Commissioner and recipient of the PCD and CPM) will hopefully celebrate his 90th Birthday in June this year and is presently living in Tasmania, Australia.

Lost Comrades List Gets Longer
The Web Administrator's seasonal message each year seems to bring out a longer list of former members' e-mail addresses 'bouncing' and being listed on the Lost and Found Pages of the site each year. I would be grateful if visitors to the site could pop into the link provided above and go through the listings. Principally, we are looking for e-mail address, rather than telephone numbers, but if you know someone who is listed as lost or sought, please contact them and ask them to update their details - using this Registration Form. Please note that mail bounces during the festive season due to mail boxes being filled may be a cause - just notify me if this is the case.
