 Death:
Douglas William 'Doug' Wright 4071
Alistair Black reports, with regret, the death of Douglas
Wright on 10 September 2012 in Tasmania, Australia. Doug joined
the BSA Police in June 1946 after having served as a navigator
in the Bomber Command of the RAF during World War II. He had
been an accountant before his profession was interrupted by
the war. During his earlier career Douglas served in the District
Branch in the Mashonaland and Manicaland provinces. He was
a member of the Royal Escort in 1947. Doug was commissioned
in October 1960 and promoted to Senior Assistant Commissioner
in June 1970. He served in District commands in Matabeleland
and he did a stint also as Assistant Commandant Depot. Douglas
was Officer Commanding Midlands Province before retiring in
November 1975. During his distinguished service Doug was the
recipient of the CPM and PCD. He returned to the United Kingdom
to live in Somerset, but later emigrated to Australia and
settled in Hobart, Tasmania. Douglas celebrated his 90th birthday
in June 2012. Our thoughts and condolences go out to his wife,
Ursula, family and friends, to whom we extend our deepest
sympathy.

Queensland Newsletter: October 2012
Mike Edden has sent in another Queensland
Newsletter (please click on the link) for your
reading pleasure. This carries news of the Annual Luncheon
held 14 October 2012 and Rick VanMalsen's story about his
post war search for a SAAF Puma downed near Mapai during the
war. The photograph below shows those who attended the lunch.

United Kingdom Branch Regimental Dinner
2012

The Annual Regimental Dinner of the UK Branch of the Association
took place at the Victory Services Club, London on Friday
28 September 2012. Members and their guests were gathering
in the bar well before 17:00 with the greetings of old comrades.
4955 Bob Morriston called in to meet up with old friends but
was unable to stay. The dinner bugle call sounded at 19:15.
The
Carisbrooke Hall had been decorated with BSAP and Rhodesian
flags and the BSAP banner displayed. HM the Queen’s response
to the Branch’s greetings on her Diamond Jubilee was also
on display alongside the President’s plaque, a model of a
mounted BSAP Officer and Dave Blacker’s remembrance poem.
A total of 74 members and guests found their places at tables
which had been tastefully dressed in blue and gold and bearing
the names of well-known Rhodesian raptors. The film of the
Last Parade was shown during dinner.

Death: Michael Henry Ayreton-White 5754
Des Howse advises, with regret, the death of Mike Ayreton-White
on 5 October 2012 in Durban, South Africa. Mike joined the
BSA Police in September 1957 and served mostly in the districts
in the Midlands, Manicaland and Victoria Provinces, where
he ended his service as Officer in Charge Chiredzi. He was
the recipient of the Police Medal for Meritorious Service.
Mike retired in August 1980 with the rank of Chief Inspector.
He went farming in the Lowveld, but continuous harassment
by government agencies forced him to emigrate to South Africa.
Our thoughts and condolences go out to his wife, Ethne, family
and friends, to whom we extend our deepest sympathy.

Death: John Stewart Woodcock 5129
Dick Glanville advises, with regret, the death of John Woodcock
on 29 September 2012 in Johannesburg, South Africa. John joined
the BSA Police in September 1953, ex Royal Air Force, and
served in the Radio Branch. During his police career he help
the development of the police communications networks, including
the communications and security networks for the Queen Mother's
visit to open Kariba Dam. He served until August 1964, leaving
on retirement on gratuity, with the Rank of Chief Inspector
(T). John attested into the Signals Corps of the Rhodesian
Army, in which he was later commissioned, eventually retiring
with the rank of Major. In civilian life, John joined Grinacker
Electronics and emigrated to South Africa, with the same firm,
in 1980. He also worked with the SABC as a development officer,
before retiring. Our thoughts and condolences go out to his
wife, Nina, family and friends, to whom we extend our deepest
sympathy.

Death:
Stanley Oldham 'Stan' Forrest 4005
Fred Punter advises, with regret, the death of Stan Forrest
on 28 September 2012 in Solihull, United Kingdom. He was 86
years of age. Stan joined the BSA Police in April 1946 and
served the first six years of his service in Salisbury, before
transferring to Matabeleland, where he was stationed at Bulawayo
Traffic and then the License Inspectorate. Stan was promoted
to Inspector in November 1959 and served successively as Member
in Charge at several Bulawayo suburban stations. He was commissioned
in November 1963 and ended up as Officer Commanding Bulawayo
Camps, before retiring on pension in May 1966. Stan retired
with the rank of Superintendent. Our thoughts and condolences
go out to his wife, Ginny, family and friends, to whom we
extend our deepest sympathy.
