John Finegan: John ‘Jack’
Finegan: I am trying to trace any descendants of my
great uncle Jack Finegan originally from George's Street,
Drogheda, Ireland. One of his medals was auctioned in
October 2009 but unfortunately I found out too late
to bid and then was unable to later trace the seller.
The auction listing read as follows: “Special
Constable J.F. Finegan, Rhodesia - British South Africa
Police Reserve. Southern Rhodesia War Service Medal
(unnamed as issued), Special Constabulary Long Service
Medal (GVIR: JOHN F. FINEGAN). With verification from
the BSAP magazine, The Outpost. The May 1942 edition
shows recipient serving in the Gwelo District and the
March 1948 edition confirms the award of the Special
Constabulary long service medal.” He was aged
50 in 1942. I know he married Irene Gannon of William
Street, Drogheda in St Mary's Cathedral, Cape Town in

Robert URWIN Force Number 3074: Robert was my father. He served in the BSAP from 1929 - 1949.He was stationed in Bulawayo and Selukwe. He married Muriel Bell in Bulawayo in 1940, she was nursing in Umtali.I would very much like to fill in the gaps. Hans Peter Hansen: born 11/3/1864 in Denmark was appointed to the BSA Police on 1-11-1895 and accepted into the SAP on 1-6-1921. He was murdered on duty in Claremont Cape Town and had a big funeral where his casket covered with the Union Jack and topped by his helmet was paraded through the town. Where could I find out more info about this ancestor and his family ??

BSAP 1905-1915 Frank Neville: I am trying to find any information on my Great Grandfather Frank Neville Ex 7th Dragoon Guards, I believe he served with the BSAP 1905 -1915 or thereabouts. His attested date is 01/01/1933 and I know he served
until at least 1951 as he was presented a long service
medal in 1951. The only confirmed rank I have for Pierce
is Staff First Class Sergeant. Could anyone describe

I am seeking any information about my grandfather, who
served in BSAP from around 1914-1922. He was killed
on duty whilst riding on patrol in the region of Gun
Kopje. I do not have the exact date of the funeral in
1922, but the cortege left from Salisbury General Hospital
to the cemetery. I have a newspaper article describing
the event and the funeral which was well supported as
he was popular in the district. I especially would like
to know if anyone in Harare could locate the grave for
me, but any information will be welcome. There is a

Greetings, I am searching for any information regarding
my Grandfather, Oscar Hancock. Oscar Hancock was attested
on 08/05/1909 and was discharged on his own request
on 13/11/1919. Please could I have any pertinent information
about his service record ie. Whathat were the joining
criteria then, Where was he stationed? What rank did

John Hugh Macdonald -1904 Reserve
Force: John H Macdonald joined the reserve force
in 1904 in Matabeleland, I believe he was either South
African or Scottish..This is as much information I was
able to find at the archives in Harare. Any info would
help with regard to him or anything about his family

Bechuanaland Border Police 1870-1894:
John Francis Somers served in the Bechuanaland Border
Police , which according to info recently obtained was
an Imperial Unit raised by Lt Colonel F. Carrington,
South Wales Borderers, with a strengh of 500. He could
have participated in the First Matabele War of 1893
and would then received the British South Africa Company
Medal 1893. He died at the age of 46 drowning in the
Hartsriver neat Taung in the Northern Cape IN 1894,
at that time under British control.I am not sure when
he first came to South Africa but at the time of his
death he was a detective in the Bechuanaland BoRder
Police. He married a lady, Anna Gans in 15 November
1886 by a missionary, John Brown of the London Missionary
Society(LMS)in a town TAUNG not far from Vryburg. Will
appreciate any help regarding in obtaining more info
regarding his military record, burial etc. I believe
from our Archives in Cape Town that the military records
of the British soldiers would of been taken back to
England.

Prior to that we both sat our O levels together in Derby, England & his mother, his brother Alan & John owned a petrol station in Mickelover, Derby. John came back to London in 1968/69 & stayed with me in our flat but wasn't happy with with living in England. I think he returned to Rhodesia but I also think he went on to Australia where his mother & brother had emigrated to? I bumped into him at Jan Smuts airport, Joburg in 1974 but since then we have lost touch!

Members and Squad Photos of 8/63:Dave Harley 7000 recently died in Melbourne. Dave was a member of the Australia Branch. Derek Hardey 7069 attended his funeral on behalf of the branch. Dave's two sons and a daughter advised Derek that they did not have any photos of Dave from his time in the Force and asked if he knew anyone who might have any photos of him. I have taken on the responsibilty to try to track down some original photos. A squad photo would be a good starting point. The only fellow squad member of Dave's squad I have contact with is Bob Rankin and he does not have a squad photo and would very much like to have one. Seeking ex-BSAP officer David R Turton: I am
looking for ex-RAF colleague David R Turton. Dave was
an armament apprentice of the 91st Entry of RAF Halton
Aircraft Apprentices (Jan 1959 - Dec 1960) and is known
to have later served (No 8099) in the BSAP. He may have
returned to the UK to live in the Bognor Regis area
but attempts to trace him have found the trail cold.
His colleagues of the 91st Entry are keen to trace him
in connection with the 50th anniversary of our joining
