Cheers Ray. I will forever remember those days both In Salisbury and Umtali when we competed violently with each other on the dartboard, snooker table, football field and on one occasion on the rugby field as well as on the rifle range and now and again on the cricket field.. There was always, inevitably, challenges in the bar, wherever we happened to be and it was’nt for lack of cash that you were awarded the title of “One round Ray”. Rest in peace buddy and sincere condolences to Daphne.

Ray was actually my last ‘boss’ at Special Branch Headquarters, on the then Nationalist Desk. It was just post independence and for most of us on that section, the Desk had become somewhat folly, as our former nationalist intelligence targets became our bosses! A good humoured and very dedicate man to his service.
Ray was an ardent supporter of the Regimental Association, a man of great generosity. He was always happy to be in the presence of his former colleagues and enjoyed his last Regimental lunch with us all on 25 April – many will suffer this great loss and I extend my personal condolences to his wonderful wife, Daph, and his family. May he rest in peace.
