26 Nov Notice: Former Member in Distress
The Mashonaland Branch of the Regimental Association wishes to express some concern over stories circulating on social media concerning a former member of the force. It has come to our notice that images of the said individual, in a badly emaciated state, and who is not very well, have gone viral, resulting in an unfortunate breach of the individual’s privacy, in the opinion of some, which is likely to generate an emotional response.
While each and every one of us is at liberty to make a donation we nevertheless appeal to the recipients of this message to channel their donations, whether in money or in kind, through the Mashonaland Regimental Association in Zimbabwe which has set up a trust fund to manage such donations in an accountable manner and to the best advantage of the former member.
May we assure you, that the Mashonaland Regimental Association has this matter fully in hand. The immediate care needs and medical attention of the individual have been sorted. A professional care giver has been employed. Food supplies and even cooked meals are being prepared by former member wives and neighbours, and we are presently attempting to locate relatives.
Members of the Mashonaland Association have already begun to donate to a fund held in trust and managed by the Association. We have made an appeal to the Support Unit Association for assistance with donations from their members, since the member concerned was a member of the Unit. These must be channeled through Barry Woan. We may still approach the other Associations to ensure that the individual’s best interests are fully catered for, but only as a last resort.
Please contact the Chairman, Bill Linfield, or the Treasurer, Andrew Field, for further information.
A very special thanks must go out to former members, Kerry Kay and Nigel Gabriel (Association Almoner), for the effort, resources and time they have expended in sourcing relief for our former colleague, and bringing this sad situation to our attention.
